Spreading Christmas Cheer

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s the holidays, and more specifically Christmas! Christmas is one of my absolute favorite holidays, and has always been a great way for me to de-stress, especially since, while it is the holidays, it’s also the time of finals for many college students (Yikes!).

So here are some ways to de-stress with some Christmas Cheer:

  • Decorate- It doesn’t matter what you celebrate, but decorating for the holidays at my house has always been fun. You don’t have to do anything big! Just get some garlands if you want! For me, I tend to decorate my small dorm tree with ornaments that I get from friends and some that I make myself! Making your own decorations is also a fun way to de-stress from finals fever.

My friend Alex bought this cute little Captain America ornament for my tree last year and he brings me nothing, but happiness.
  • Bake- Santa Claus is coming to town and you know what that means! It’s time to do some holiday baking. My cousins, sister, and I bake cookies and other sweet treats every year for our grandparents. Baking is also a fun to provide some joy and stress relievers to other people’s lives. You can give some away to friends who might need a pick-me-up after tests, and seeing the smile on their face will definitely bring a smile to yours.

My cousins, sister, and I also spend a lot of time trying out new crafts from pinterest because three out of four of us are broke college students.
  • Gifts- This is not what you think. I’m not taking about giving gifts, I’m taking about making them. I have always found great joy and stress relief in giving and making gifts for my friends. Giving is something that during the holidays people tend to forget, and most of the holidays are about giving and love towards everyone. Gifts don’t have to be big. It can just be something you’ve made (go back to my painting or sewing blogs for some ideas) or just something small that you thought they would appreciate.

These are the methods I use to get rid of my stress, especially because it is test season at the end of the semester. However, I use these, also, to try and capture the joy and happiness that I felt as I child and to try to give back to those people who have helped me over the years. So from my dorm room to yours, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
